At Beaumaris, our goal is to help you regain function and live pain-free through effective shockwave therapy.
Radial Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate healing in injured or painful tissues. It is commonly used for treating chronic musculoskeletal conditions like tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, and calcific shoulder tendinitis. The therapy works by promoting circulation, reducing inflammation, and breaking down adhesions, which helps to alleviate pain and accelerate tissue repair.
At Beaumaris Health Centre, we use a state-of-the- art shockwave unit. Our doctors or therapists will first identify the areas where the shockwaves should be applied. Then a small machine is pressed directly onto the skin while shockwaves are administered. Some discomfort or pain is expected during the treatments but is often short-lived. Treatment often takes only a few minutes.
Treatments are often recommended once a week for approximately 3–6 visits. Normalization of tissue and full heal continues for a period of 4–6 weeks after the last treatment is administered.
Shock wave therapy is used to treat chronic pain, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, and other musculoskeletal conditions.
Some patients may experience mild discomfort during the treatment, but it is generally well-tolerated.
The number of sessions varies based on the condition being treated and your response to therapy. Typically, 3–5 sessions are recommended.
Side effects are minimal and may include slight redness, swelling, or bruising at the treatment site, which usually resolves quickly.
Generally, a referral is not required, but it’s best to check with your healthcare provider and insurance company.
